The Hazardous Waste Regulations across Europe will change from 1st June 2015*, amending the classification criteria to bring them in line with the CLP Regulation.
The European Commission have now published the regulation which will implement these changes; Commission Regulation (EU) No 1357/2014, plus an amending decision to the list of wastes regulation: Commission Decision 2014/955/EU.
The changes to be applied by EU No 1357/2014 are an EU Regulation, which means they will apply across the EU from 1st June 2015* and will not require implementing by domestic legislation.
As mentioned in a previous post, the Environment Agency, in conjunction with SEPA, Natural Resources Wales and the NIEA, are currently consulting on their updated guidance, WM3.
WM3 is essentially the field manual that waste producers, holders and waste management companies must follow to understand these changes and properly classify hazardous waste.
If you are affected by any of these changes you may wish to take advantage of our Hazardous Waste Update Course which can also be delivered on-site at your location. Please contact us for further information.
*NB. In the UK, the implementation date of the 1st June 2015 has been delayed until mid June 2015.
