The UK Government has countersigned a new multilateral agreement, number 347, initiated by Germany to allow wastes of the Monkeypox virus to be carried under UN 3291 (effectively declassifying them from

Category A to Category B) and samples to be carried under UN 3373.

Please note this does not apply to cultures of the virus, which will remain classified as Category A.

If you carry wastes under this rule, a copy of the multilateral agreement should accompany the dangerous goods transport document/hazardous waste consignment note and reference to the multilateral agreement should be made in the transport document/hazardous waste consignment note.

The full text of the multilateral agreement can be found on the UNECE Website here.
